Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

Soft tissue density mass projects over the right heart. 


CT demonstrates a fat-filled Morgagni hernia. 

Case Discussion

Morgagni hernia is a retrosternal/parasternal hernia and represent ~2% of congenital diaphragmatic hernias. Herniation occurs through through the Morgagni foramen, adjacent to xiphoid process.

Mostly on the right side and asymptomatic. Hernias can contain omentum, colon and rarely stomach, small intestine and liver.
