MR liver iron quantification (T2 relaxometry)

Age: 35-40Y
Gender: Male

Imaging has been performed for liver iron quantification as per Ferriscan imaging protocol.

A formal report from Ferriscan has been scanned into the PACs system.

CT abdomen previously

Non-contrast axial scans have been performed.

A 5.6 millimeter calculus is present in the upper pole of the left kidney. No further renal calculi are identified. No ureteric calculi are identified.

Both kidneys are unremarkable in appearance measuring 10.9cm on the right and 11cm on the left.

The liver is hyperdense in keeping with hepatic iron deposition. Splenectomy noted.

The remainder of the scan is unremarkable.


Case Discussion

Non-invasive quantification of liver iron by MRI has a high accuracy. There are T2 relaxometry, and Signal Intensity Ratio (SIR) methods. In this example, a proprietary T2 relaxometry method was used with off-site data analysis. The results show markedly elevated iron concentration.
