Presentation
Patient present vague abdominal pain and weight loss. On ultrasound, there was a cystic lesion on the right lumbar quadrant.
Patient Data
Axial non-contrast CT, shows a fluid-filled appendix with curvilinear calcifications associated with a loculated low-attenuation and laminar collection surrounding the anterior surface of the liver with mild mass effect which demonstrate a scalloped appearance.
There is also soft-tissue implants along the omentum, diffuse omental nodularity and some hypodense lesions in the liver.
Percutanuos biopsy by CT
Percutaneous biopsy of the omental implant was consistent with adenocarcinoma.
Case Discussion
Mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix must be suspected when there is a compromise of the peritoneum (mucinous deposits or soft-tissue implants).
