Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

A right sided expansile bone lesion at the anatomical location of anterior clinoid process. The medial portion of the anterior clinoid process surrounding the mass was eroded and the bony margins of the mass were well corticated. There was no direct connection between any paranasal sinus and the mass cavity. Features are suggestive of mucocele of the right anterior clinoid process

MRI showed a right-sided small oval shape mass, compressing the optic nerve, in the medial portion of the right anterior clinoid process. There was no direct connection between any paranasal sinus and the mass cavity.

Case Discussion

The pathological diagnosis after the operation indicated a mucocele.

Pathology:

Benign fibrous cyst wall focally lined by pseudostratified (respirtaory type) epithelium. Histomorphology is compatible with mucocele.
