Mueller Weiss syndrome

Presentation

History of the left mid-foot pain and swelling for the last few years. There was no history of significant trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Non weight-bearing radiographs

x-ray

The lateral portion of the navicular bone shows collapse and sclerosis resulting in a comma-shaped deformity. There is medial protrusion of the navicular bone. The tall-navicular joint shows severe joint space narrowing with talar subchondral sclerosis and cyst formation. The cuboid bone shows medial subluxation relative to the calcaneum along with subchonral sclerosis and cyst formation.

Case Discussion

The case shows radiographic changes of Mueller Weiss syndrome which adult-onset osteonecrosis of the tarsal navicular bone. There is associated perinavicular osteoarthritis.
