Multicystic dysplastic kidney with contralateral pelviureteric junction obstruction (pediatric)

Case contributed by Ammar Haouimi
Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Abnormal kidneys on antenatal ultrasound.

Patient Data

Age: 21 days
Gender: Female

The right kidney is enlarged with numerous non communicating cysts of various sizes (up to 24 mm), replacing the entire normal renal parenchyma with intercystic echogenic areas (fibrous parenchyma).

The left kidney is normal in size with moderate hydronephrosis, dilated renal pelvis and collapsed proximal ureter, suggestive of pelviureteric junction obstruction.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound features suggestive of a right multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) with associated left pelviureteric junction obstruction. This association was already described in the literature.
