Multifocal and multicentric carcinoma breast

Case contributed by Dr Garth Kruger

Diagnostic workup of a palpable mass left breast

Patient Data

Gender: Female

Spiculated masses which are multicentric and multifocal.

Multicentric masses, which are clearly delineated.

Case Discussion

The case only really makes sense if you add the ultrasound image. The image shows the two contiguous but distinct tumors visible on the mammo image above.

Imaging of the contralateral breast is also indicated to get a baseline of the contralat breast and to exclude a synchronous carcinoma on the contralateral side.

All three lesions are biopsy confirmed IDC.
