Routine abdominal ultrasound.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

Multiple innumerable small simple cysts. No color flow on applying color Doppler.

Innumerable non-communicating cystic lesions of low signal intensity on T1 images and bright signal intensity on T2 images with no post-contrast enhancement. The cysts are seen scattered on both hepatic lobes giving characteristic 'starry sky' like appearance. No biliary tree obstruction.

Case Discussion

Multiple biliary hamartoma (von Meyenburg complex) is a rare benign congenital malformation of the biliary duct. Usually discovered incidentally on ultrasonography (US).
