Multiple myeloma

General malaise.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

Multiple focal lucencies are throughout the pelvis and proximal femora, with endosteal scalloping within the right proximal femur. No fracture.  Findings suggestive of an infiltration process such as multiple myeloma.  

Case Discussion

Multiple myeloma can be evident on radiographs with multiple focal lucencies, detected during part of a skeletal survey, with some institutions using MRI to aid in diagnosis and staging 1Plasmacytoma often presents in younger patients as a solitary focus, which can be expanded in more advanced cases. Subsequent serum electrophoresis confirmed the diagnosis.
