Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Headache and visual disturbances.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male

Multiple lesions with a high sinal intensity on T2/FLAIR are identified in the periventricular and deep white matter. Some of these lesions showed an incomplete peripheral enhancement (open ring) on T1 C+ (Gd). Lesions that showed a low sinal intensity on T1WI (black holes) are also noted 

Case Discussion

Pediatric multiple sclerosis is generally defined as multiple sclerosis with an onset before the age of 16 years. About 5% of the patients present before the age of 16 years and less than 1%, before the age of 10. The most prevalent age of presentation in children is about 12 to13 years.
