Myxofibrosarcoma - soft tissue

Case contributed by Ammar Haouimi
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Painless hard lump of the medial aspect of the left upper thigh.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

There is a lobulated soft tissue mass (58 x 45 x 40 mm) of intermuscular location between the adductor longus medially, sartorius anteriorly, and vastus medialis laterally, encasing the femoral vessels. It elicits an isosignal to the muscles on T1, heterogeneous high signal on T2 with mainly peripheral heterogeneous enhancement on postcontrast sequences ( the non-enhanced central area may represent the myxoid component). Edematous infiltration of the sartorius muscle indicating probably denervation changes.

Case Discussion

MRI features of an intermuscular soft tissue mass encasing the femoral vessels, pathologically proven as a myxofibrosarcoma of intermediate grade.
