Case Discussion

This case nicely demonstrates one of the feared complications of nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion, malposition. Here, an NGT was found lying within the distal right main bronchus on a check chest X-ray (CXR). The medical team was informed at the time of reporting and the NGT was removed and re-inserted.

This case highlights the importance of a CXR to confirm positioning of NGT prior to enteral feeding.
