Typical location and MRI findings of a benign developmental cyst at the junction of the nose and cheek with minor pressure erosion on bone
These cysts are rare and on histologic examination show a respiratory epithelial lining of pseudostratified ciliated columnar cells without inflammatory cells.
The origin is a matter of controversy being either retention cysts of mucous glands or fissural cysts due to embryonic nasal epithelium being trapped between the merging maxillary process and the medial and lateral nasal processes.
