Presentation
Previous history of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Represents with multiple right sided cranial nerve palsies.
Patient Data
Extensive destruction of the skull base, in particular note the absence of the foramen ovale and spinosum and destruction of the anterolateral wall of the carotid canal.
The contrast images demonstrate the solid-cystic infra-temporal fossa mass, which was proven to be recurrent nasopharyngeal tumor.
The exposed carotid artery is more evident.
The annotation highlighting the areas of bony destruction of the skull base, compared with the normal side.
Case Discussion
Anatomy of the skull base is complex, with multiple foraminae and vital neurovascular structures.
In this case, a recurrence of a known nasopharyngeal tumor in the skull base, demonstrates the anatomy well, through the asymmetry causes by destruction from the tumor mass.
