Near-complete Achilles tendon rupture

Presentation

Acute severe posterior ankle pain

Patient Data

Age: 45 years old
Gender: Male
Modality: MRI

Achilles tendon rupture with retracted ends of its torn fibers, with a blood & fluid filled gap that measures about 2 cm.

Few remaining intact fibers are seen along its medial aspect.

Extensive calcaneus marrow edema.

Diffuse circumferential subcutaneous soft tissue edema (most evident along the anterior aspect)

Case Discussion

This is a case of high grade partial thickness tear of the Achilles tendon.
