Case contributed by Dr Yair Glick

Presentation

Motor vehicle accident, car overturned into a fish farm.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
CT

Patchy confluent ground-glass opacities in all segments of both lungs with perihilar predominance, consistent with near-drowning pulmonary edema.

X-ray

Patchy alveolar opacities are also seen in this chest radiograph taken approximately 12 hours after the CT.

X-ray

Follow-up radiograph taken 3 days later

In the follow-up radiograph taken 3 days later, the alveolar opacities have resolved. There are bilateral symmetrically increased vascular markings with cephalisation, in keeping with mild pulmonary edema.
