Inhaled sea-water and lost consciousness. Cough productive of pink frothy sputum.

Lower zone predominant opacity in both lungs compatible with pulmonary oedema.

Case Discussion

The patient did not require intubation, and recovered fully following a short inpatient admission for supportive management.

Near-drowning is a cause of non-cardiogenic pulmonary oedema.
