CT demonstrates focal symmetric low density changes within the thalami, head of the caudate nuclei and lentiform nuclei. The motor strip is preserved and the cerebral hemispheres are otherwise unremarkable.
Case Discussion
This young child fell into a swimming pool and underwent prolonged resuscitation of more than one hour. Unfortunately, although reaching hospital he eventually died.
This case illustrates the symmetric abnormalities of deep grey matter structures secondary to profound acute hypoxia.
