Abdominal CT demonstrates a round exophytic tumor located on the lesser curvature of the stomach with a central zone of necrosis which forms cavity with an air-fluid level. There is a linear communication between stomach lumen and tumoral cavity. Tumor contacts the liver and anterior abdominal wall.

No regional or distant lymphadenopathy.

No signs of pancreatitis or peripancreatic fluid collections.

Case Discussion

CT shows an exophytic submucosal tumor originated from the stomach, which is typical for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). This case is interesting in that the central part of the tumor has necrosed causing a cavity with a communication between the gastric lumen and the intratumoral cavitation.
