Negative intra-articular contrast

Case contributed by Paul Simkin
Diagnosis not applicable

Presentation

Hip pain.

Patient Data

Age: 35
Gender: Male

This MRI was performed with intra-articular gadolinium, however the images show a signal void instead of high signal. It was determined that this was due to a much higher concentration of contrast being administered erroneously.

The patient suffered no adverse effects, and successfully had the study a few weeks later.
