Neonatal intracranial haemorrhage - grade 3

Traumatic delivery. Right sided seizure.

Patient Data

Age: 4 days
Gender: Male

Both lateral ventricles are dilated and lined by echogenic material with more confluent echogenic change in dependant portions. Feautres here are of grade 3 germinal matrix haemorrhage.

Case Discussion

Germinal matrix haemorrhage is the leading cause of intraventricular haemorrhage in neonates and can be graded into 4 grades. Grade 3 IVH represents haemorrhage into the ventricular system that results in dilatation.
