Nephrostomy for urosepsis

Presentation

Middle aged patient with right ureteric colic with rigours.

Patient Data

Age: 40
Gender: Female
ct

BIlateral renal calculi, with a right hydronephrosis due to a proximal ureteric calculus.

Fatty liver.

Fluoroscopy

Control film: large proximal ureteric calculus.

Nephrostogram: Hydronephrosis due to almost complete obstruction from the ureteric calculus.

Case Discussion

In this case a percutaenous nephrostomy tube was inserted for urosepsis secondary to obstruction from a ureteric stone.

The patient's clinical status improved significantly within 12 hours of nephrostomy tube insertion showing its value in the acute setting with infected stone disease.
