Nerve sheath tumour breast

Case contributed by Dr Garth Kruger

A small mass appears on a screening mammogram in a 60 yr old client

Patient Data

Age: 60
Gender: Female

Case Discussion

The lesion anterior on the mammogram is low density with a fatty hilum. Its a small intramammary node. The new lesion posterior is high density with juts  a hint of spiculation?

The ultrasound  shows a well defined solid lesion. I had thought it was probably a fibroadenoma but the slightly prominent thickened capsule was a little strange initially...

Biopsy confirmed a nerve sheath tumour.

I am always leery when things appear in a post menopausal breast.
