Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Patient presents with new onset seizeure.

Patient Data

Age: 18 years
Gender: Male

Two selected images from a non-contrast study demonstrate two foci of calcifications. The larger occipitotemporal focus is surrounded by low density in keeping with oedema.

MRI demonstrates findings consistent with active inflammatory change around the left parietal lobe lesion with oedema and minor contrast enhancement.

Case Discussion

Findings are almost certainly those of neurocysticercosis. The patient was followed up, the oedema abated and calcification persisted.
