Chronic difficulty emptying the bladder.

Patient Data

Age: 8 years
Gender: Male
Fluoroscopy

Voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) demonstrates an elongated distended urinary bladder with multiple urinary bladder diverticula characteristic of neurogenic bladder.

Post-void residual urine volume is remarkable.

Case Discussion

Neurogenic bladder is a term applied to a dysfunctional urinary bladder that results from any lack of coordination between the central nervous system and the somatic nervous system including injuries to the central or peripheral nerves that control and regulate urination.
