Presentation

Profound IgA defeciency and common variable immunodeficiency.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

There are multiple ring-enhancing lesions scattered throughout the brain (cerebral hemispheres, cerebellum and midbrain) with associated areas of vasogenic edema in keeping with abscesses.

A small focus of acute hemorrhage in the right frontal lobe adjacent to the craniotomy flap is seen which is secondary to brain biopsy.

Case Discussion

The brain biopsy showed necrotic abscesses containing filamentous micro-organisms in keeping with Nocardia species.
