Nodular pulmonary amyloidosis

Case contributed by Maxim Stalkov
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Asymptomatic.

Patient Data

Age: 58
Gender: Female

CT clearly demonstrates characteristic findings of nodular pulmonary amyloidosis: nodules of multiple shapes and sizes with sharp, lobulated contours. Slow grow was demonstrated by comparison with previous studies (from another institution).

Case Discussion

No primary malignancy was found. Biopsy proved nodular pulmonary amyloidosis.

Amyloidosis is characterized by the deposition of abnormal protein material in extracellular space of various tissues. Nodular pulmonary amyloidosis is a limited form of disease. Multiple intrapulmonary amyloidomas have to be differentiated with metastatic and granulomatous diseases.
