Congestive heart failure. Exertional dyspnea.

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Male

Left ventricular cardiomyopathy with spongiform trabeculations. Global left ventricular dilatation. Hypokinesia of the non-compacted myocardium.

Annotated image

Global left ventricular dilatation. Thinned non-compacted myocardium: ratio 3:1. Reduced Ejection Fraction 27%-24%. Highgrade congestive heart failure. Bilateral atrial dilatation.

Case Discussion

MRI is the main modality in the diagnosis of LVCN (left ventricular non compaction). Patients present asymptomatic or with congestive heart failure. For diagnosis ratio of compacted myocardium to non-compacted myocardium should measure up to 2:1. Hypokinesia of the apical LV. Hypertrabeculation.
