Non-obstructing unilateral ureterocele

Presentation

The young male presents with burning micturition for 2 weeks.

Patient Data

Age: 16
Gender: Male

Trans abdominal scan

Transabdominal scan of KUB region in a young male patient show cystic dilatation of left vesicoureteric junction. Multiple (3-4) calculi seen within the ureterocele. Both kidneys are normal and there is no hydronephrosis.

KUB radiograph shows multiple radiopaque vesical calculi.

Case Discussion

Ureterocele is a congenital abnormality with cystic dilatation of the lower part of the ureter.

Ureteroceles may present as sepsis, renal failure, recurrent urinary tract infections or it can be asymptomatic.

Unilateral ureteroceles with calculus formation are not uncommon. This patient presents with dysuria and shows multiple calculi within ureterocele and no hydrnephrosis.
