Case Discussion
A complete ankle series consists of three views: anterior-posterior (AP), mortise, and lateral.
The mortise view is key in assessing the integrity of the ankle joint, and the entire joint space should be visualized1. This can be achieved by ensuring that the medial and lateral malleoli are positioned in the same plane, which puts the ankle at a slight internal rotation of about 15 degrees. That being said, a mortise view may be achieved without any internal rotation when the patient has a natural eversion of their foot.
