This is essentially a normal fluoroscopic proctogram study. At rest, the pelvic floor has a normal position, with slight descent at the commencement of evacuation. The anorectal angle widens, and the anal canal opens and allows unimpaired expulsion of the barium paste. There is no mucosal or full-thickness intussusception or prolapse, and no rectocele or enterocele.
Case Discussion
It is uncommon to find a normal proctogram study, as anatomic defects such as rectoceles have even been observed in asymptomatic patients.
