Normal lateral cervical spine radiograph: 12 year old

Case contributed by Dr Jeremy Jones

Fall from bike. Midline cervical tenderness.

Patient Data

Age: 12

Normal alignment. Normal vertebral bodies. No fracture.

Case Discussion

In paediatric patients, the process of ossification results in vertebral bodies that have a wedged appearance. This is normal and should not be confused with a compression fracture.
