Case Discussion

An example of normal cardiomediastinal widening due to supine positioning in an obese patient. Supine chest radiographs performed in the obese, the elderly and during expiration are particularly susceptible to this widening effect which can incorrectly be interpreted by inexperienced readers as a sign of mediastinal hematoma in the trauma setting.
