Presentation

Previously admitted with acute urinary rentention. Suprapubic catheter in situ.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years old
Gender: Male
Modality: Fluoroscopy

The full length of the urethra is normal in appearance.

The full length has been imaged synchronously by performing a ascending and descending urethogram concurrently.

Case Discussion

The male urethra has anterior and posterior components, with further anatomical sub divisions.

The anterior urethra is typically imaged by an ascending urethrogram and the posterior urethra, by a descending urethrogram.

Studying the urethra is usually to assess for a stricture or tear.
