Nuchal translucency

Case contributed by Dr Morlie L Wang

Presentation

Antenatal ultrasound at 12-14 weeks. Previous first trimester scan was normal.

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Female
Modality: Ultrasound

Nuchal translucency is markedly increased due to a cystic lesion in neck extending bilaterally from midline. Some internal septations are also seen within lesion.

Case Discussion

While raised nuchal translucency may be due myriad reasons. This particular case appears to have cystic hygroma with septations. Strong association with chromosomal anomalies specifically Turner's syndrome suggested.

Karyotyping may be advised in such cases.
