Obstructing stones in common bile duct

Presentation

Right upper quadrant pain and jaundice. Ultrasound shows stones in gallbladder and dilated bile ducts.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Multiple small stones are seen within the gallbladder, and impacted at the distal end of the common bile duct. There is dilatation of the intrahepatic ducts, the cystic duct and the common hepatic duct. The pancreatic duct is normal.

Case Discussion

This heavily T2-weighted thin slice sequence allows confident detection of obstructing stones, and can be used to generate a 3D rotating image to display the anatomy.
