Occipital condyle fracture (type 3)

Presentation

Multitrauma, MVA.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

Mildly displaced fracture of the left occipital condyle medial tubercle (avulsion fracture).

There are also skull base fractures involving the right petrous temporal bone and extending into the frontal and left maxillary sinuses and left orbit. Pneumocephalus. OGT and ETT in situ.

Case Discussion

Avulsion fractures of the medial aspect of the occipital condyle where the alar ligament attaches represents a type 3 fracture which are potentially unstable injuries.
