Ocular globe rupture

Case contributed by Shervin Sharifkashani
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Facial trauma, right orbital pain and decreased right eye visual acuity.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female
ct

Right eye cornea and uveo-scleral layer tear with preseptal and lacrimal gland soft tissue swelling are seen. The lens is visualized incompletely/poorly, presumably due to trauma and edema.

Case Discussion

The case illustrates non-contrast MDCT features of ocular globe rupture. There is no obvious foreign body. The inability to visualize the native lens should not be immediately dismissed as being due to prior cataract surgery, but rather possibly indicative of lens trauma and edema resulting in it being isoattenuating to surrounding vitreous humor 1. An ophthalmological review is required.
