Presentation
Car accident.
Patient Data
There is a transverse fracture in the base of the odontoid process with extension into the body of the C2 vertebra that displaced posteroinferiorly. The normal lordosis of the cervical spine is reversed. External fixation is performed.
Open mouth odontoid view couldn't be obtained due to external fixation and position lim
A transverse fracture with extension to the lateral masses is present in the base of the odontoid process, accompanied by the mild odontoid's backward displacement and shows no frank changes on hyperflexion and hyperextension images.
Case Discussion
Features on a single lateral view of the cervical spine are compatible with type III Anderson and D'Alonzo classification of odontoid process fracture.
