Esophageal cancer (barium swallow)

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Loss of appetite, weight loss, dysphagia for solid, epigastric pain and heartburn.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Large irregular concentric fixed filling defect at the middle third of thoracic esophagus measuring 5 cm in length, giving apple core appearance and shouldering. It has irregular surface and mainly involving its posterior wall.

Case Discussion

Findings are suggestive of esophageal carcinoma of the mid-thoracic esophagus forming irregular stricture with classic presenting symptoms of dysphagia and weight loss. The patient refused endoscopy and further imaging and continued on palliative treatment.
