Elderly gentleman with swallowing difficulties.
Patient Data
The esophagus is distended down to the distal third with a standing column of barium.
Extensive mucosal irregularity on the posterior aspect of the distal esophagus.
Circumferential soft tissue mass involving the distal third of the esophagus extending down to the gastro-esophageal junction.
7 mm right lower lobe nodule.
1 cm pathological upper abdominal node.
Case Discussion
Not too many patients now present and have their initial diagnosis of esophageal malignancy made with a barium swallow.
This is an example of a pretty advanced malignancy with extensive mucosal irregularity.
