ct

The esophagus is canalized.

On the right side of the esophagus are two diverticula, one at the midthoracic level, just below the bronchial bifurcation, and the other, larger, in a supradiaphragmatic position.

Subsegmental atelectasis of the right lower lobe of the lung.

Case Discussion

Many diverticula, especially if small, may be asymptomatic, or there may be symptoms not related to the diverticulum, but to the motor dysfunction that caused it. The most frequent symptoms are dysphagia and regurgitation.

Epiphrenic diverticula can also cause dysphagia and regurgitation.

The diverticula of the middle thoracic esophagus are generally asymptomatic.
