Patient Data

Age: 45 years

Composite images of three spot radiographs during an oesophagram.

In the first image, tiny "flask-shaped" outpouchings "float" outside the oesophagus, compatible with oesophageal pseudodiverticulosis.

Coned-in image of the pseudodiverticula.

Case Discussion

Multiple small pseudodiverticula around the midoesophagus, proximal to a peptic stricture, consistent with oesophageal intramural pseudodiverticulosis

In addition to strictures, oesophageal pseudodiverticula are associated with oesophageal candidiasis and oesophageal carcinoma.

The pseudodiverticula cannot be seen on endoscopy.
