Shortness of breath. Known esophageal malignancy.

An esophageal stent traverses the gastro-esophageal junction.

Hyperinflated lungs in keeping with COPD.

The appearances of the lungs and esophageal stent for malignancy are both likely the outcome of the same cause - smoking.

Case Discussion

A covered esophageal stent is observed traversing the GEJ.

Esophageal stents are almost exclusively deployed for symptomatic benefit for a malignant stricture, typically in the distal esophagus.

The stent may be placed endoscopically or by an interventionally radiologist under fluroscopic guidance.
