Prior esophageal surgery. Cough.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Right sided thoracotomy.

Gas filled structure in the right paramidline attending to the superior mediastinum.  Air-fluid level at the inferior aspect.

Heart size normal.  Lungs clear.

Case Discussion

Typical appearances of an esophagectomy (Ivor Lewis procedure), typically performed for a malignancy in the distal esophagus.

The less formal term gastric pull-up is also used.
