Case Discussion

This is a pathology proved case of esophagogastric adenocarcinoma that underwent esophagogastrectomy and colonic interposition.

Rarely done upper gastrointestinal tract surgery, called colonic esophageal interposition, replaces the esophagus with the colon, usually when gastric pull up can not be done. The preferred replacement is the transverse colon with all or a portion of the ascending colon. The colon's haustra are visible on conventional radiographs, CT scans, and barium swallow images.
