Oil cyst (breast)

Case contributed by Dr Morlie L Wang

ICU admission.

Patient Data

Age: 55
Gender: Female

Large opacity in the left breast with peripheral calcification.

Case Discussion

Trauma may lead to fat necrosis, which may lead to an oil cyst. Patient had a history of alcohol abuse, liver cirrhosis, drug abuse, renal failure. Patient did not give a history of breast trauma, but was probably not asked either since the patient had many other medical problems that landed her in the ICU. So finding a remote history of breast trauma was probably low on the list of things to do.
