Presentation
Dizziness associated with nausea. Symptoms are inducible with positional changes, particularly when bending forward. Having greater difficulty with complex mental tasks and has had a frontal headache for the past few days.
Patient Data
There is a large right frontal mass with little to no contrast enhancement. There is mild surrounding edema. There are multiple cysts within the mass. There is extension of abnormal signal across the anterior corpus callosum into the left frontal lobe. There is mass effect in this region resulting in a moderate leftward shift of the septum pellucidum.
Case Discussion
This is an oligodendroglioma.
The patient underwent resection of the mass. Gross pathologic examination showed a tan-to-red mass with its external surface exhibiting scattered vascular channels. Histopathologically, there were atypical glial cells. The tumor was found to be primarily composed of oligodendroglial elements. The tumor stained positively for GFAP. A co-deletion of 1p/19q and mutation of IDH were identified.
