Optic atrophy

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis almost certain

The right optic nerve is small and demonstrates high T2 signal. Some loss of volume is also noted on the right of the optic chiasm.

Case Discussion

This patient had remote optic neuritis with resultant optic atrophy on the right. Note the high T2 signal in the volume reduced right optic nerve.

At the chiasm the fibers are distributed to both optic tracts and therefore the asymmetry is no longer visible.
