Presentation

Intermittent visual loss. Ophthalmology examination revealed papilledema.

Patient Data

Age: 11 years
Gender: Female
ct

There are bilateral optic disc drusen.

The orbits, optic nerves, optic chiasm, and optic radiation are otherwise normal on CT imaging.

There are no acute, chronic, or other congenital intracranial abnormalities either.

Case Discussion

Unusual bilateral calcific optic disc drusen in a young child.

The orbits were otherwise unremarkable.

The clinically identified papilledema is, therefore, pseudopapilloedema in reality once the scan has excluded any intracranial abnormalities or raised intracranial pressure.

The possibility of a familial inheritance was discussed with the parents because of the young presentation.
